My creature is Unwell — how to make it better
Your creature has gone grey and droopy and occasionally shivers. That's the Unwell state, and it is the only failure state Inkmon has.
The short answer to "my virtual pet is sick, what to do": get all four needs to 60 or above and keep them there through one full sleep, or use Medicine for an instant fix. Either works. Neither is permanent damage.
First, the thing everyone actually wants to know
Your creature cannot die. There is no death in Inkmon, no permanent damage, no losing the creature you drew, and no state you can reach by neglect that can't be undone.
If you put the app down for six months and came back, your creature is Unwell and waiting. Every point of Bond you earned is still there.
What triggers Unwell
Two or more care stats sitting at zero for six continuous hours.
Both parts matter. One stat at zero is not enough — you can forget dinner. And six hours of continuous zero means a single missed check-in never does it. This effectively requires an entire missed day.
Long before that, you'll have seen it coming. Mood is dragged down by every other need, so a creature heading for Unwell looks visibly unhappy hours in advance. That early visual warning is doing the job a red banner would do in another game.
What Unwell actually costs
Bond stops accruing. That is the whole penalty.
No damage. No lost stages. No lost Bond. No lost accessories. Nothing you earned is taken away — you simply stop making progress until your creature is better.
Pausing rather than punishing is a deliberate choice. A care game that takes things away for missing a day teaches you that opening it after a bad week is a bad idea, and that is precisely when someone should feel fine about opening it.
The two ways back
Care — free, slow, always available
Get all four stats to 60 or above, then keep them there through one sleep cycle.
In practice:
- Feed until Hunger is over 60. That's two meals from empty.
- Clean — one tap takes Hygiene to 100.
- Play to lift Mood. Remember mood is held down by the other needs, so do this after feeding and cleaning or you'll be fighting the penalties.
- Tuck in. Energy only ever refills through sleep — there is no energy item, no shortcut, and this is the step people miss.
- Wake up to a healthy creature.
That's roughly one evening and one night. Nothing you do here costs money.
Medicine — instant
One rewarded video, or a small amount of Ink. Clears Unwell immediately.
The free path always exists and always works. Paying only ever buys you the wait — never the outcome. Monetising recovery is reasonable; monetising the only recovery would turn neglect into a sales funnel, and we're not building that.
Stopping it happening again
- Tuck in every night. Sleep is the only thing that refills energy, and skipping it is the most common route to two stats hitting zero at once.
- Trust the notifications. Three a day, at 07:00, 13:00 and 19:00 local. Answering them makes Unwell essentially unreachable.
- Read the face, not the bars. A creature that looks fine is fine.
- Going away? Feed, clean, play and tuck in before you go. A sleeping creature decays at roughly a third of the awake rate.
