Sleep and the tuck-in routine

Virtual pet sleep in Inkmon is not a menu toggle. It's a small ritual at a fixed time of day, and it's the single most important habit in the app — both for your creature and, honestly, for whether you keep playing.

Sleep is the only source of Energy

Of the four care stats, three have items or actions that restore them. Energy does not.

There is no energy snack, no coffee, no rewarded video that tops it up. Energy is restored by sleeping and by nothing else. Once you know that, most confusion about a creature that stays tired disappears.

  • Awake, Energy falls at 6 per hour.
  • Asleep, it climbs at 14 per hour — a full night from empty takes about eight hours.

How tucking in works

Tap Tuck in in the evening. The Den dims, your creature curls up, and the sprite settles into its closed-eye frame with a slow drift of zs.

While asleep:

  • Energy refills at 14 per hour.
  • All other needs decay far more slowly — Hunger drops to 3 per hour instead of 9, Hygiene to 2, Mood to 1.
  • Play is disabled. Let them sleep.
  • All notifications are suppressed. The app will not wake you up to tell you about a sleeping creature.

Your creature wakes on its own at full Energy, or whenever you wake it. Waking early is never punished — you simply get less energy back.

What happens if you forget

Nothing dramatic, but it is measurably worse.

If Energy reaches zero, your creature falls asleep by itself — and recovers at half rate, 7 per hour instead of 14. A full night of collapsing takes roughly sixteen hours instead of eight, which means it's still tired tomorrow, which drags Mood down, which is how people end up Unwell without ever making an obvious mistake.

The asymmetry is the design. Manual care always beats neglect. Neglect is never fatal.

Why the evening beat matters most

The app sends at most three notifications a day, at roughly 07:00, 13:00 and 19:00 local time. The 19:00 one is the tuck-in prompt, and it is the most habit-forming moment in Inkmon.

A ritual at a fixed time is what turns an app into a routine. Feeding is a task; tucking in is a goodnight. Two seconds of dimming the room and watching something curl up is worth more to how this app feels than any number of mechanics.

Practical answers

Can I tuck in during the day? Yes. Sleep is a state, not a clock. Tuck in whenever you're about to be away for hours — before a flight, before a long shift.

Does it sleep while my phone is off? Yes. Nothing runs on your device. Values are computed from the time elapsed since your last action, so eight hours away is eight hours of sleep whether the app was open or not.

Can I tuck in twice in one night? Tuck-in is once per sleep cycle. Wake it, and you can put it back down.

Will it wake up hungry? Usually, yes — Hunger still falls at 3 per hour overnight, so a full creature at bedtime is asking for breakfast by morning. That's what the 07:00 prompt is for.
